We are regularly asked why we do not have a solar outdoor shower in our range.
A solar outdoor shower uses solar energy to heat the water and therefore seems to be a sustainable alternative to an outdoor shower that is linked to a hot water installation.
How does a solar outdoor shower work?
The operation of a solar outdoor shower is simple: water is stored in a reservoir and this is heated with the heat of the sun. And therein lies the answer to the question why LB Solutions does not have a solar outdoor shower in its range. A solar outdoor shower can never offer the same comfort as an outdoor shower on a central heating system. You generally do not use hot water in an outdoor shower on sunny days, but on days when it is colder outside. In the Netherlands, due to cloud cover, these are usually the days when there is little energy yield from the sun. As a result, the water reservoir cannot heat up sufficiently and a nice hot shower is not feasible at that time.
What is a sustainable solution for hot outdoor showering?
If you would like to heat the water in your outdoor shower without gas, an electric instantaneous water heater is a very good alternative. This can be placed anywhere where there is a power connection and thus regulate the hot water supply to the outdoor shower.
If you are still busy with the construction of your garden, you can also consider placing the power supply for the flow device as close as possible to the outdoor shower. For example, create a technical room in a garden shed or pool house near the outdoor shower. By placing the device as close as possible to the outdoor shower, the pipe route is kept to a minimum, which also means less water is used.
This way you can enjoy a wonderfully warm shower in the open air in a sustainable way.
